I'm sitting in my tiny house tonight, warm and cozy, listening to a storm warning. There were a few drops of rain earlier, but the storm seems to have passed us by again.

The snows of the winter have given way to rains and sun; allowing the trees and plants to grow. My plum tree is full of pink blossoms and the lilacs are about ready to pop. The other plants are leafing out, preparing for the summer.

The promise of Ostara is becoming fulfilled. We are fast approaching the fertility of Beltaine. I've been thinking of Beltaine a lot lately. Fertility isn't just a physical attribute. It can be the germination of an idea, a project, or a dearly held plan. What wondrous things this time of year holds for us!

Hearthstone meets the Friday before or the Friday of the Full Moon at the First Unitarian Church at 14th and Lafayette in Denver. The church doors open at 7, and we like to start at 7:30. (We are NOT big proponents of Pagan Standard Time, but if there is weather related driving trouble or a problem on the freeway, we've been known to wait a bit longer.) This month's ritual is FRIDAY, APRIL 27, 2007.

Remember, please, that Hearthstone doesn’t expect everyone to enter in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust, as there are people you don't know there, but to enter with a willing heart and an open mind, and leave your differences at the door.

Some traditions are more controversial than others, or may contain a component that disturbs someone attending an Open Full Moon.  It is one of the risks of exploring different traditions.  Should anyone be uncomfortable, unsettled, or upset about any ritual presented by Hearthstone, please contact Alia to discuss -- and hopefully resolve and heal -- the issue.

On April 27, we will celebrate and invoke the powers of the Waxing Year and the Full Moon to manifest as Prosperity and Wealth. Priestess Leni will facilitate as we look at our relationship with that most potent and fearsome of all power objects: money.

Before Friday night, ask yourself: What is prosperity and wealth for me? Is it just about money? How can I manifest these in my life? Please bring a dollar bll and a sens of fun (kids should bring a quarter) to and for the ritual.

Parking has become more difficult at the church. Please read the parking suggestions provided by theFirst Unitarian Church. Thank you. —Alia

Thanks and a Tip of the Hat to Amy and several adult assistants, who led our April 6 Open Full Moon with a cast who are mostly 6-8 years old. The young people did a charming job, demonstrating their ritual skills and the seriousness with which they practice Wicca (and dissolving into giggles only once). The focus of this ritual was creating an interwoven web of interpersonal connections, thus creating a pagan community in which we are available to support one another in difficult times, and to celebrate with one another in good times. We took turns sharing with the rest of the Circle the things upsetting us in our lives and in the world around us, as well as sharing our recent successes and what we are glad for. Participants of all ages took part in this sharing, and as we opened up to each other, we truly did experience becoming a more connected, caring community. Thank you, Amy, for creating a valuable community ritual experience, as well as allowing us all to appreciate the growth of our youngest community members.

A Note from Alia

Some of you have undoubtedly already heard this. Early in the month of April, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, Ductal Carcinoma in situ, with an excellent prognosis for full recovery. However, on Tuesday April 24, I will be undergoing a mastectomy of the left breast.

I have elected to forego reconstructive surgery. I will have a prosthesis to wear once I have healed, and will eventually be tattoing the spot where my breast was removed. Any energy that folks wish to send for healing from the surgery quickly and well will be gratefully accepted.

My health has been spotty the past couple of years. It is my fervent hope that after the surgery, my health will continue to improve, allowing me to be more mobile, more independent, and more vital. I did get the good news this past week that my kidneys have finally returned to normal after the kidney failure last fall.

I do plan to be around, and providing services to the community, for quite some time. I personally believe in full disclosure, so I am letting all of you know about my health. I hope to see many of you at the May Open Full Moon -- by that time I should be fairly well healed and able to deal with crowds again. Those of you with web access and the desire for more detail can follow my story at:

Bright Blessings,

We appreciate that many of you donate to the church.  With your contributions, we have reached the point where the church is preparing to set policies for assisting those in need.  The more you can spare, the more we can help those who need it.

We aren’t going to start collecting at the door, and no one will be turned away for not having a donation.  However, we would like to suggest a donation of 4 to 7 dollars per person.  (The extra is to cover the pagans that are unable to donate.)  If you can’t afford it, you are still welcome – if you can afford more, we’d be delighted to accept it.

NOTE:  Hearthstone is a church and your donations to Hearthstone are tax deductible. If you would like to write a check so you can keep track of your donations, we can certainly handle that as well.

Several of our dates are a week early this year, in an effort to separate them somewhat from Sabbats very close to the date. This allows for Hearthstone to focus on Full Moon celebrations and allow other groups to focus on the Sabbats, whether that be public groups or closed circles.
