It’s truly spring.  Ostara has passed and you can see new growth all over.  Even some of the plants that I was certain hadn’t survived the winter are showing signs of life.  The storms we have had recently – even the one on Ostara itself – don’t last long and the snow melts right away and simply adds to the green.

I got some pictures last night that look like they could have been painted by Maxfield Parrish.  To me, those colors mean spring.  The northern hemisphere is returning to life.

Hearthstone meets the Friday before or the Friday of the Full Moon at the First Unitarian Church at 14th and Lafayette in Denver. The church doors open at 7, and we like to start at 7:30.  (We are NOT big proponents of Pagan Standard Time, but if there is weather related driving trouble or a problem on the freeway, we've been known to wait a bit longer.)  This month's ritual is FRIDAY, APRIL 7, 2006.

Remember, please, that Hearthstone doesn’t expect everyone to enter in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust, as there are people you don't know there, but to enter with a willing heart and an open mind, and leave your differences at the door.

Some traditions are more controversial than others, or may contain a component that disturbs someone attending an Open Full Moon.  It is one of the risks of exploring different traditions.  Should anyone be uncomfortable, unsettled, or upset about any ritual presented by Hearthstone, please contact Alia to discuss -- and hopefully resolve and heal -- the issue.

For the ritual on Friday, April 7, two priestesses and a priest have agreed to Draw Down for the public.  The Priestesses will be Lady Judith Brownlee and Alia, and the Priest will be Les.

Drawing Down is generally considered an experience for initiates only, but that will not be a requirement for this ritual.  This will be a more intense experience than most Open Full Moons.  Children are still welcome, but parents should be aware the energy will be more intense than usual and may affect some children more strongly than others.  It will be up to the parent to decide for his or her individual children if they should attend, and if the same children should in fact approach deity, even if selected.  Individuals selected to visit a particular deity may refuse, or bring someone with them, but I strongly suggest adults do not refuse a call, as there may be good reason for that call. If time allows, and one wishes to visit more than one Deity, you may wait.  For most people, one encounter will be sufficient. Marian will be organizing the petitioners and guiding the drummers, and Catherine will be handling grounding with a capable staff. We have made every effort to make this experience a wonderful one for everyone involved.

We appreciate that many of you donate to the church.  With your contributions, we have reached the point where the church is preparing to set policies for assisting those in need.  The more you can spare, the more we can help those who need it.

We aren’t going to start collecting at the door, and no one will be turned away for not having a donation.  However, we would like to suggest a donation of 4 to 7 dollars per person.  (The extra is to cover the pagans that are unable to donate.)  If you can’t afford it, you are still welcome – if you can afford more, we’d be delighted to accept it.

NOTE:  Hearthstone is a church and your donations to Hearthstone are tax deductible. If you would like to write a check so you can keep track of your donations, we can certainly handle that as well.

Our thanks to Chris Merrell and Jim Barrymore for their generous donations to Hearthstone.  We appreciate your support more than we can possibly express.

Thanks and a Tip of the Hat to the College of Wicca and Old Lore, a teaching coven that offered Hearthstone's March Open Full Moon.  The College provided more than twenty people who facilitated their lovely moon-oriented ritual.  Attendees were divided into four groups.  Each group progressed through four stations, each station offering an experience of one of the four phases of the moon:
