It’s hard to believe that it’s already Imbolc. We’ve only had one real snow storm since Yule. Of course, in the parking lot at work, the evidence is still there. The crews like to pile up the snow into a couple of spaces and wait until it melts. So we get to remember the snow for a long time.
This week, I celebrated the return of the light. I lit my candle and rekindled the flame in my soul. For the Celts, it is the time of Brighid, – the Keeper of the Holy Flame and the Holy Wells. She who inspires the harper and writer. The noticeable return of the light brings the inspiration that we pray for every year.
And so, for this time of year – Brighid Bless.
Hearthstone meets the Friday before or the Friday of the Full Moon at the First Unitarian Church at 14th and Lafayette in Denver. The church doors open at 7, and we like to start at 7:30. (We are NOT big proponents of Pagan Standard Time, but if there is weather related driving trouble or a problem on the freeway, we've been known to wait a bit longer.) This month's ritual is FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2006.
Remember, please, that Hearthstone doesn’t expect everyone to enter in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust, as there are people you don't know there, but to enter with a willing heart and an open mind, and leave your differences at the door.
Some traditions are more controversial than others, or may contain a component that disturbs someone attending an Open Full Moon. It is one of the risks of exploring different traditions. Should anyone be uncomfortable, unsettled, or upset about any ritual presented by Hearthstone, please contact Alia to discuss -- and hopefully resolve and heal -- the issue.
The February 10th OFM will be presented by Deb Hoffman and friends. February brings us Imbolc, with days that are now noticeably longer and the hint of spring in the air. Imbolc was sacred to Bridget, beloved goddess of the Celts. Tonight we will celebrate Bridget in song and story, learning some of the lore that surrounds her and why even today she is remembered in the hearts of the people.
Hearthstone tips its hat to Kat for leading our January Open Full Moon. Kat led a guided meditation, guiding us up the stairs to "clean our attics" in preparation for the year ahead. We found and polished our hopes and dreams, then turned toward our fears. With the big, jagged fears, we at least polished off the sharp edges. We bagged up our more manageable fears, along with our stored "woulda/coulda/shouldas," and carried the big bag down the attic stairs and burned it in the fireplace. Thank you, Kat, for helping each of us clear the way for the bright new year!
We appreciate that many of you donate to the church. With your contributions, we have reached the point where the church is preparing to set policies for assisting those in need. The more you can spare, the more we can help those who need it.
We aren’t going to start collecting at the door, and no one will be turned away for not having a donation. However, we would like to suggest a donation of 4 to 7 dollars per person. (The extra is to cover the pagans that are unable to donate.) If you can’t afford it, you are still welcome – if you can afford more, we’d be delighted to accept it.
NOTE: Hearthstone is a church and your donations to Hearthstone are tax deductible. If you would like to write a check so you can keep track of your donations, we can certainly handle that as well.

Reclaiming Spirit and Spirit Wise present: The Iron Pentacle
The Iron Pentacle
FEBRUARY 25 & 26, 2006
Reclaim the qualities of Sex, Pride, Self, Power and Passion. Call them back to you and claim them as your birthrights. Our culture has twisted these words: we, as Witches, know that we can use these words, they are sacred. They are the building blocks to becoming more human.
Using our magical skills, moving and shaping energy, transforming ourselves through trance to explore the five points of our inner pentacle: Sex (primal energy), Self, Passion, Pride (self-esteem), and Power (effectiveness in the worlds).
Reclaiming is a community of individuals working to unify spirit and politics. Our vision is rooted in the religion and magic of the Goddess, the Immanent Life Force. We see our work as teaching and making magic; the art of empowering ourselves and each other.
I am passionately dedicated to becoming the change I wish to see in the world, through erotic revolution, activism, conflict resolution and my work as a Chinese medicine practitioner. I believe in the practices of ecstasy and desire as reminders of the beauty of which humans are capable. I teach a variety of workshops nationally, including Reclaiming core classes, sex magic, spiritual ecology, priestessing and ritual skills, and sacred voice workshops. I enjoy exploring the juicy edges between ecosystems, humans, genders, races, gods, species, beliefs and worlds.
Feral became involved with the Reclaiming tradition in 1997 as a witchcamper and then as a camp organizer. She has taught Elements of Magic in communities for several years and has recently begun to teach at witchcamp. Feral has long been part of a moon lodge that works with women's blood mysteries. She teaches molecular biology for a living and strives to integrate magic into everyday life.

Since many of us have multiple family and other obligations around Yuletide, we have once again elected to refrain from holding an Open Full Moon at the end of December.
