Itís November.† Since I last wrote this column, the weather has been great.† This afternoon a cold front rolled in and it started raining about an hour ago.† Once again, I am writing this with a fire going strong in the stove and a cozy, warm house.† I spent a few minutes this morning re-arranging the curtains in the office room of our house so that we get more light through the window. We are in the dark time of the year. Sunset has been coming earlier and earlier Ė so early that I must ride my moped home in the dark most nights.† Thatís right; Iíve taken to riding a moped to save gas.† I have discovered that I love to get out in the morning and breathe the fresh air first thing in the morning.† Who knew?† I now have a vague idea of what people see in motorcycles.

Iím glad of the fire tonight though.† Samhain is past and Yule is yet to come.† Right now, the world is waiting and Iím waiting with it.† What will come next?

Hearthstone meets the Friday before or the Friday of the Full Moon at the First Unitarian Church at 14th and Lafayette in Denver. The church doors open at 7, and we like to start at 7:30.† (We are NOT big proponents of Pagan Standard Time, but if there is weather related driving trouble or a problem on the freeway, we've been known to wait a bit longer.)† This month's ritual is FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2005.

Remember, please, that Hearthstone doesnít expect everyone to enter in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust, as there are people you don't know there, but to enter with a willing heart and an open mind, and leave your differences at the door.†

Some traditions are more controversial than others, or may contain a component that disturbs someone attending an Open Full Moon.  It is one of the risks of exploring different traditions.  Should anyone be uncomfortable, unsettled, or upset about any ritual presented by Hearthstone, please contact Alia to discuss -- and hopefully resolve and heal -- the issue.

The November 18th OFM will focus on ushering in the new, refreshing the old and revitalizing life after Samhain and the change over into the new year. †Be prepared for thought-provoking conversation, refreshing old acquaintances and forming new links to new people.† As usual, Draconis Leona is planning on more community-building work within her ritual.† This ritual is friendly for all, young and old alike.

For September

Thanks and a Tip of the Hat to Alia and Catherine for leading Hearthstone in our Mabon Full Moon on Sept. 16.† We marked the balance point of light and dark, shared what we are thankful for, and gave thanks for the coming autumn, this time for inner growth. Catherine offered an especially beautiful version, with voice and harp, of "Oh, She will bring the buds in the Spring/Oh, He will call the leaves in the Fall."† Thank you, Alia and Catherine, for inspiring in us a spirit of Thanksgiving for the entire harvest season.

For October

Our thanks and a Tip of the Hat to Cece, Thor, and friends, who helped us focus on the fact that the Dark Time of the year is a good time to "Turn the World Around" as well as turn our own lives around by releasing the old and focusing on the new attitudes, habits, and other things we wish to bring into our lives.

We have volunteer Priests and Priestesses for the months of February through May, and possibly June.† The rest of the year is still open.† This does include January!† If you would be interested in presenting the first Open Full Moon of 2006, and on a Friday the 13th to boot, please contact Alia.

We appreciate that many of you donate to the church.† With your contributions, we have reached the point where the church is preparing to set policies for assisting those in need. †The more you can spare, the more we can help those who need it.

We arenít going to start collecting at the door, and no one will be turned away for not having a donation.† However, we would like to suggest a donation of 4 to 7 dollars per person.† (The extra is to cover the pagans that are unable to donate.)† If you canít afford it, you are still welcome Ė if you can afford more, weíd be delighted to accept it.

NOTE:† Hearthstone is a church and your donations to Hearthstone are tax deductible. If you would like to write a check so you can keep track of your donations, we can certainly handle that as well.

For those of you who wonder what happened to Amy Harper (I do have her permission to use her name within the community), she has a new baby and is now a single mom with three kids.† She needs some things for her children; if anyone has something they can offer, the simplest thing to do would be to bring it to the Open Full Moon.

Amy is now a single mom with three kids and minimal to no child support.† Amy is currently between jobs, but looking very hard for a new one.† She needs the following items:

For her son: Size 7 clothes and shoes size 13-1; for her daughter: Size 10-12 dresses and size 12-14 tights; for the baby: Size 2 diapers.† (with the cooler weather, some 3-6 month size clothing would not be remiss; she's a tiny baby.)

Please contact me if you can help, or bring items to the OFM.

Earth Temple meets at Small Gatherings which is located at 66th and Wadsworth (NE corner) unless otherwise noted. The start time will be Friday at 7:30 pm. The dates are as follows:

Dec. 2 - Open Esbat
Dec. 16 - Open Yule
Dec. 30 - Open Esbat

Rocky Mountain Wiccan Temple will present a musical Yule ritual on Wednesday evening, December 21, at the First Universalist Church, northeast corner of Hampden and Colorado.† The Wheel of the Year will be honored in this ritual with chants and music from all eight Sabbats.† Harp, flute, piano and drum, as well as vocal music, will be featured.† Come sing, dance and listen to good music as we celebrate the Birth of the Sun.

Doors open at 7:00 PM and the ritual begins at 8:00 PM.

If you have something to say, and are willing to let Alia or Catherine edit it slightly, (generally for grammar Ė Alia has the soul of an English teacher and I want to be one) please feel free to submit your writing.†† Content will not be edited.†† We can usually make room for more voices.
