Itís October.† Tonight is a chilly night and itís raining with snow expected tomorrow.† We have a wood stove and itís going strong tonight, so the house is cozy and warm.† I donít know if Iím ready for winter to come, but at least the house seems to be.†

In the cycle of the year, we are coming close to Samhain Ė the last harvest of the year. This is the time that whatever is left in the fields must be taken up before the snow, or left for the animals.† And sometimes it is best to leave some of it for those animals.† They also need to prepare for the winter to come.†

A cold night like this is a great time to reflect on preparations for winter.† Especially in a cozy house, with the fire burning, and a nice pot of tea.†

Hearthstone meets the Friday before or the Friday of the Full Moon at the First Unitarian Church at 14th and Lafayette in Denver. The church doors open at 7, and we like to start at 7:30.† (We are NOT big proponents of Pagan Standard Time, but if there is weather related driving trouble or a problem on the freeway, we've been known to wait a bit longer.)† This month's ritual is FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2005.

Remember, please, that Hearthstone doesnít expect everyone to enter in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust, as there are people you don't know there, but to enter with a willing heart and an open mind, and leave your differences at the door.†

Some traditions are more controversial than others, or may contain a component that disturbs someone attending an Open Full Moon.  It is one of the risks of exploring different traditions.  Should anyone be uncomfortable, unsettled, or upset about any ritual presented by Hearthstone, please contact Alia to discuss -- and hopefully resolve and heal -- the issue.

On October 14th, join Cecilia and friends in a ritual to ďturn the world around.Ē† The earth is changing everyday, all around us. People often see the products of change but never really focus on how those changes came into being. We will discuss why things change and how we can exert our own energy into making the changes more productive and how we can 'turn the world around'. (There will be some energy work, some basic body movement, and of course singing.)

The song is "Turn the World Around."†

Thanks and a Tip of the Hat to those who attended Hearthstone's hastily assembled September OFM celebrating Mabon.† We truly appreciated you being there and your contributions to Katrina relief.† We raised $223.00 which was sent to the Officers of Avalon.

We appreciate that many of you donate to the church.† With your contributions, we have reached the point where the church is preparing to set policies for assisting those in need.† The more you can spare, the more we can help those who need it.

We arenít going to start collecting at the door, and no one will be turned away for not having a donation.† However, we would like to suggest a donation of 4 to 7 dollars per person.† (The extra is to cover the pagans that are unable to donate.)† If you canít afford it, you are still welcome Ė if you can afford more, weíd be delighted to accept it.

NOTE:† Hearthstone is a church and your donations to Hearthstone are tax deductible. If you would like to write a check so you can keep track of your donations, we can certainly handle that as well.

There's an election on November 1 this year.† I strongly encourage you to examine the issues on the ballot and vote as your conscience prompts you.† While I, personally, as Alia, strongly endorse Amendments C & D; as the leader of your church, I ask only that you educate yourself on the issues and vote intelligently and fully informed.
