Okay, last month, I said it didnít look much like spring.† Despite the blizzard of last week, I take that back.† My trees are budding and leafing.† My plants are growing.† I spent this weekend outside planting bulbs and herbs and pulling weeds that donít belong around MY plants.† Okay, not just my plants, but Iíve had a hand in their growth and I feel possessive.† Iíve trimmed and pruned and weeded and watered and feel justifiably proud.†
Beltaine is just around the corner.† Anyone feel the sap rising?† The plantsí, of course.††††
Hearthstone meets the Friday before or the Friday of the Full Moon at the First Unitarian Church at 14th and Lafayette in Denver. The church doors open at 7, and we like to start at 7:30.† (We are NOT big proponents of Pagan Standard Time, but if there is weather related driving trouble or a problem on the freeway, we've been known to wait a bit longer.)† This month's ritual is FRIDAY, APRIL 22, 2005.
Remember, please, that Hearthstone doesnít expect everyone to enter in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust, as there are people you don't know there, but to enter with a willing heart and an open mind, and leave your differences at the door.†
Some traditions are more controversial than others, or may contain a component that disturbs someone attending an Open Full Moon. It is one of the risks of exploring different traditions. Should anyone be uncomfortable, unsettled, or upset about any ritual presented by Hearthstone, please contact Alia to discuss -- and hopefully resolve and heal -- the issue.
Our ritual on April 22nd will be presented by Tanith and Friends.† This time of year, we can practically feel the Spring rising under our feet. Changes are finally starting to take place, and new ideas are breaking free of old bounds. Everyone and everything is trying to grow up and hang on to youth, all at the same time. How are we dealing with the changes we need to make? How are we communicating effectively in relationships? How are we letting go of things that we feel are holding us back, without forgetting to be grateful for our pasts? Join us as we celebrate changes, knowing when to stop waiting, and learning to let go of the binds we believe are holding onto us.†
Thanks and a Tip of the Hat to Trevor for a challenging and unorthodox Open Full Moon on "Good Friday."† Teachings of Jesus were presented, and thought-provoking questions were asked and pondered: Is Jesus the only child of God?† Are WE children of God?† Are we God?† Can we see the faces of the Goddess in Mary?† Can we love the God in each other?† Can we separate the teachings of Jesus from the Christian church?† Is Jesus to be held accountable for the pain and abuse inflicted by people who claim to be his followers?
††† We closed the ritual with the beautiful Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi:† "Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.† Where there is hatred, let me sow love...."
††† This stimulating ritual challenged many of us.† Thank you, Trevor and friends, for taking the risk to present a subject about which emotions run so strong.
We appreciate that many of you donate to the church.† With your contributions, we have reached the point where the church is preparing to set policies for assisting those in need.† The more you can spare, the more we can help those who need it.
We arenít going to start collecting at the door, and no one will be turned away for not having a donation.† However, we would like to suggest a donation of 4 to 7 dollars per person.† (The extra is to cover the pagans that are unable to donate.)† If you canít afford it, you are still welcome Ė if you can afford more, weíd be delighted to accept it.
NOTE:† Hearthstone is a church and your donations to Hearthstone are tax deductible. If you would like to write a check so you can keep track of your donations, we can certainly handle that as well.
