It’s Spring.  The calendar says so, although it doesn’t feel like it.  Of course, that is typical for Colorado:  summer-like weather even in January.  And according to the snowpack figures, we’re not quite out of the drought.

I’ve been planning some of my planting for this season, even if I can’t afford to get the plants yet.  I want to get some yarrow to offset some of the colors of the Russian sage; and I understand there are some other colors of sage out there….  It does seem to be a time to plan and plant, doesn’t it?

Hearthstone meets the Friday before or the Friday of the Full Moon at the First Unitarian Church at 14th and Lafayette in Denver. The church doors open at 7, and we like to start at 7:30.  (We are NOT big proponents of Pagan Standard Time, but if there is weather related driving trouble or a problem on the freeway, we've been known to wait a bit longer.)  This month's ritual is Friday, March 25.

Remember, please, that the policy at Hearthstone is not to enter in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust, as there are people you don't know there, but to enter with a willing heart and an open mind, and leave your differences at the door.

Join Trevor on March 25th for an Open Full Moon about Jesus. He'll explore the Christian mythos in a Pagan setting, and share the story of the world's most popular rebirth myth. Trevor will present some of Jesus teachings for examination and why they're meaningful to pagans and polytheists.  He will explore themes from love and peace to holy spirit and eternal life to forgiveness and redemption. Trevor hopes that people will walk away with a better understanding of a teacher, healer, and god figure.

Trevor believes that many people in the Pagan community have negative experiences connected with Christianity, and for justifiable reasons and that the Open Full Moon is a place to present different traditions and different ways of experiencing ritual, community, and spirituality.  As an eclectic group, our doors and minds are open to traditions and inspirations from around the world, and Trevor believes this incarnation will be no different.

This ritual, while focused on Jesus, will be presented in a way quite accessible to those used to Wiccan and Neopagan rituals.  In Trevor’s words, “For what is essentially different between communion and cakes & wine? Between a prayer to Zeus and a prayer to JHVH?  Between Easter and Ostara?” Trevor encourages everyone to attend this ritual, even those who have had strong negative connotations with Jesus.  The ritual will be educational rather than evangelical in nature.  Anyone who feels uncomfortable with any part of the ritual may elect not to participate.  Invite your friends, whether they don't know Christianity, grew up Christian, or are Christian today.

Thank you to Deena for February’s Circle. Circle was cast with the assistance of Eric (East), Thor (South), Catherine (West), and CeCe (North).  After Circle was cast we then went to a quarter of our choice where we discussed the relationship between water and air, water and fire, water and ourselves, and water and earth. Following the discussions we were shown pictures of experiments with water crystals. Those crystals that had positive enforcement while they were forming were beautiful. Those that had no enforcement were disorganized and blah. We then raised positive, beautiful energy which was directed to the water that was used for “cakes and wine”. Since the human body is mainly water this was positive reinforcement for us. So thank you to Deena and company for a positive and reinforcing Circle on water.

We appreciate that many of you donate to the church.  With your contributions, we have reached the point where the church is preparing to set policies for assisting those in need.  The more you can spare, the more we can help those who need it.

We aren’t going to start collecting at the door, and no one will be turned away for not having a donation.  However, we would like to suggest a donation of 4 to 7 dollars per person.  (The extra is to cover the pagans that are unable to donate.)  If you can’t afford it, you are still welcome – if you can afford more, we’d be delighted to accept it.

NOTE:  Hearthstone is a church and your donations to Hearthstone are tax deductible. If you would like to write a check so you can keep track of your donations, we can certainly handle that as well.

Beginning 3/27/05 thru 5/2/05

With the art of magic, we deepen our vision and focus our will, empowering ourselves to act in the world. In this class we begin the practice of Magic, Witchcraft, and Goddess spirituality in the Reclaiming Tradition by working with the Elements of Magic: Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit. Techniques include: visualization, sensing and projecting energy, chanting, trance, creating magical space, spellcraft and structuring rituals. Group experience follows feminist consensus process. We hope to provide a fair and nurturing environment for all participants.

Prerequisite: Reading of the first six chapters of The Spiral Dance by Starhawk. We ask that participants be committed to attending all classes. Elements of Magic will be drug and alcohol free so safe, nurturing, sacred space is created for all.  Reclaiming is a community of women and men working to unify spirit and politics. For more information about the Reclaiming Tradition see:

We welcome all genders, all races, all ages and all sexual orientations and all those differences of life situation, background, and ability that increase our diversity.
