We are entering the dark time of the year.† The nights are longer; the days are shorter and both are colder.† We can truly feel the winter coming.†

Iíve begun to consider those Iíve lost in the past year, so that I may remember them at Samhain. †Of course, Iíve also begun to shop for candy to give to the neighborhood kids for trick-or-treating.† It always amazes me at the contrasts we have at this time of the year:† solemn remembrances of those we have lost and the joyful reminders of those who are continuing on.†

Hearthstone meets the Friday before or the Friday of the Full Moon at the First Unitarian Church at 14th and Lafayette in Denver.† This month we are meeting on October 1.† The church doors open at 7, and we like to start at 7:30.† (We are NOT big proponents of Pagan Standard Time, but if there is weather related driving trouble or a problem on the freeway, we've been known to wait a bit longer.)

Remember, please, that the policy at Hearthstone is not to enter in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust, as there are people you don't know there, but to enter with a willing heart and an open mind, and leave your differences at the door.

The October OFM is presented by Sacred Willow.† Samhain is a special time of year. On the 22nd of October, we are planning a celebration that will correspond to this Sabbat. We will begin the Sabbat with a working of sympathetic magic using leaves as a focus of things we need to leave behind as we enter the dark time of the year. With the darkness comes an invitation to personal introspection and planning for a brand new year ahead. But before we embark on a new journey, we should unsaddle our lives from those things that have proven to be not of use anymore.

Following this working, we will take time to invite the Dread Lord of the Shadows to open the Gates through which all of us pass. We will share the mystery of the Castle of the Silver Wheel, where Arianrhod reigns as the White Lady. And from there we will take time to contemplate and commune with our departed friends and family, and reaffirm life by way of the Lord of Misrule.

This is a special time of year and we look forward to everyone's benefit.

for September:

Our thanks and a tip of the hat to the Fellowship of the Warrior Mage, who presented a ritual using present day avatars titled "Crouching Witch, Hidden Pagan." Much of the symbolism and ritual were based on archetypes presented in the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and we were taught to move our chi, or life energy as part of the ritual. In addition, they helped us focus on our adaptability. We left with a card with a picture of the window we saw in meditation to remind us of our ability to change as necessary.

We have determined that our break-even point is about $4 per person.

We arenít going to start collecting at the door, and no one will be turned away for not having a donation.† However, we would like to suggest a donation of 4 to 7 dollars per person.† (The extra is to cover the pagans that are unable to donate.)† If you canít afford it, you are still welcome Ė if you can afford more, weíd be delighted to accept it.

NOTE:† Hearthstone is a church and your donations to Hearthstone are tax deductible.† If you would like to write a check so you can keep track of your donations, we can certainly handle that as well.

Earth Temple will now be meeting at Small Gatherings at 66th and Wadsworth. The storefronts that we will be using are located in the small shopping center on the northeast corner of the intersection. The storefronts are toward the east side of the parking lot. There is plenty of parking in the parking area including handicapped parking. There are no stairs involved and we should not have a problem with noise.

We have changed the date of Yule from Sunday, Dec. 19, to Saturday, Dec. 18. The schedule for the rest of our rituals is as follows:

Samhain Nov. 6 (Sa)
New Moon Nov. 13 (Sa)
Waning Moon Dec. 11 (Sa)
Yule Dec. 18 (Sa)

We have not changed our start time. We will still meet at 7pm. Reminders will be sent out prior to each ritual.

If you have something to say, and are willing to let Alia or Catherine edit it slightly, (generally for grammar Ė Alia has the soul of an English teacher and I want to be one) please feel free to submit your writing.†† Content will not be edited.†† We can usually make room for more voices.
