As if following the calendar, autumn arrived with Mabon. Temperatures dropped and the skies opened.  We even had snow in the mountains.  The leaves have started to change.  I have a few more irises to get into the ground so that they have a little growing time before they go dormant before winter.  Who knew that having a yard meant you had to prepare for each season.  On that rainy evening of Mabon eve, I took out the harp and “played in the fall.”

Although we don’t have any vegetables to harvest (this year), we did just make a massive grocery run, so as to “lay in a stock for winter.”  I guess some things are instinctive to the human animal.

Hearthstone meets the Friday before or the Friday of the Full Moon at the First Unitarian Church at 14th and Lafayette in Denver.  This month we are meeting on October 1.  The church doors open at 7, and we like to start at 7:30.  (We are NOT big proponents of Pagan Standard Time, but if there is weather related driving trouble or a problem on the freeway, we've been known to wait a bit longer.)

Remember, please, that the policy at Hearthstone is not to enter in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust, as there are people you don't know there, but to enter with a willing heart and an open mind, and leave your differences at the door.

The September OFM (Which will actually be in October) is presented by the Fellowship of the Warrior Mage. We are presenting a Chinese inspired ritual, that we call “Crouching Witch, Hidden Pagan”. This is a ritual of adaptation and transformation.

Disclaimer: As Warriors, we use weapons to symbolize the Quarters. We use Staff, Sword, Bow, and in the North, a gun. For this ritual, we will be using a muzzle loading black powder gun. There will be no gunpowder, nor shot, and the gun will be verified as safe by no less than two of the Warriors (This is standard procedure for us.). The gun is no less Sacred, nor more dangerous than a sword, it is the person wielding the tool that determines its use.  The weapons are used to Call and Dismiss the Quarters. If having an unloaded and safed gun in Circle bothers you, you may not wish to attend this ritual, though you'll be missing quite a lot of fun!

for August:

Thanks and a tip of the hat to all of you who joined us in celebrating the 13th birthday of Hearthstone Community Church, Inc. at the last ritual. Remember, while we organize the gatherings, it's your support that makes the church a real and vital part of the community. Thanks for supporting us for the past 13 years, and we hope to be able to say the same thing in another 13!

—Alia and Catherine

We have determined that our break-even point is about $4 per person.

We aren’t going to start collecting at the door, and no one will be turned away for not having a donation.  However, we would like to suggest a donation of 4 to 7 dollars per person.  (The extra is to cover the pagans that are unable to donate.)  If you can’t afford it, you are still welcome – if you can afford more, we’d be delighted to accept it.

NOTE:  Hearthstone is a church and your donations to Hearthstone are tax deductible.  If you would like to write a check so you can keep track of your donations, we can certainly handle that as well.

Earth Temple will now be meeting at Small Gatherings at 66th and Wadsworth. The storefronts that we will be using are located in the small shopping center on the northeast corner of the intersection. The storefronts are toward the east side of the parking lot. There is plenty of parking in the parking area including handicapped parking. There are no stairs involved and we should not have a problem with noise.

We have changed the date of Yule from Sunday, Dec. 19, to Saturday, Dec. 18. The schedule for the rest of our rituals is as follows:

New Moon Oct. 16 (Sa)
Samhain Nov. 6 (Sa)
New Moon Nov. 13 (Sa)
Waning Moon Dec. 11 (Sa)
Yule Dec. 18 (Sa)

We have not changed our start time. We will still meet at 7pm. Reminders will be sent out prior to each ritual.

If you have something to say, and are willing to let Alia or Catherine edit it slightly, (generally for grammar – Alia has the soul of an English teacher and I want to be one) please feel free to submit your writing.   Content will not be edited.   We can usually make room for more voices.
